WHAT WE OFFER
Polestar Pilates applies current research and practice in orthopedics, sports medicine and movement science to the principles originated by Joseph Pilates. It’s a program that works for everyone, regardless of age or condition.
Our meditation room is a cozy oasis that offers a quiet space for introspection. Guided by the breath and the gentle voice of a teacher/ guide, our meditation classes and workshops increase awareness of thought patterns and teach you simple, yet powerful methods to help unleash the wisdom within.
Our yoga classes are founded in the classical philosophy of Patanjali, and in the tradition of the Swami Rama, Himalayan Institute tradition. Given the many approaches to teaching yoga, for example, Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative, etc., our primary focus is to make the practice accessible and inspiring.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT POLESTAR
In 2003 after years of intermittent back pain I was referred by my doctor to Polestar Pilates. I enrolled in the low back class with Brent and have progressed to Allegro II. I am in better physical condition than I’ve ever been in my life. My strength, coordination, and flexibility have improved tremendously. My posture awareness has improved. Furthermore, I’m having fun three times a week in my Pilates classes.
Polestar represents Pilates in a revolutionary concept with professionalism and dynamic appeal. This weekend was one of the best ones for me, and Christi I congratulate you for your teaching performance that keeps me engaged and helps me intellectually think differently. I feel great being a student again and I look forward to all of it.
I was very fortunate to have Christi as my Pilates trainer. Christi is one of the most outstanding trainers that I have had. Her coaching ability is reflected in great spirit and attitude, and very high quality communication. She diplomatically provides very helpful context, practical insights, and sophisticated guidance. By viewing Pilates like neuromuscular training or retraining, and with a mind/body approach, she taught me how to use my body most effectively.
Christi Idavoy, MA, PMA®-CPT, RYTPolestar Pilates Senior Educator, Yoga, Meditation, GYROTONIC®
Christi Idavoy has dedicated her life to movement. As a young dancer and philosophy student at NYU she found an instant affinity with the science and practice of yoga. On a voyage to share her passion for yoga as a healing art she moved to Costa Rica where she taught yoga and furthered her studies as a graduate student at the United Nations University for Peace. In 2005 she stumbled into a Pilates studio in San Jose, CR where she began a career as a Pilates instructor as well. Today Christi has lectured and taught yoga and Pilates in many Latin American countries thanks to her role at Polestar Pilates Education. As a senior educator, Christi is a teacher’s teacher and is the owner of the first Polestar Pilates franchise in Miami, FL. Christi’s teaching style is captivating and educational, leaving her students feeling like they receive more than a work-out, but rather a deeper sense of connection and understanding of themselves. Like many, Jennifer came to Pilates through an injury. With suddenly painful herniated cervical disks from an old injury combined with years of poor posture and (just perhaps) many years of overzealous, yet improper baby holding. There were surgeons ready to sign her up for surgery. Then she found the head of Neurosurgery at the University of Miami Spine Institute who prescribed Pilates first. Not surprisingly since many Polestar® Pilates Education faculty are also UM faculty. Jennifer did not only fall in love with the Pilates method but she also avoided surgery! It was love at first class and she hasn’t turned back since. In 2015 she complete the Comprehensive Polestar® Pilates Teacher Training and teaches from her own experience of the healing powers of Joe’s method. Jennifer believes in “Every Body Pilates” and loves to have the chance to introduce others to the method.
Edward TorresGENERAL MANAGER
Eddie was born in Miami Beach, FL. At the age of nine he moved to Costa Rica. Started playing soccer at a young age. During his training with national and international teams, (Spain, Panama, Costa Rica and U.S.A.) stretching before and after enduring sessions was a key factor in avoiding injury and achieving good performance. In 2008 he began practicing Pilates. Eddie found that through controlled movement he would strengthen muscles, gain flexibility and most importantly have a better sense of well being.
